Rachael Mann talks to Zoe Oates, Partner at Schofiled Sweeney. Zoe has over 16 years’ experience in restructuring and insolvency. She advises a wide range of clients in contentious and non-contentious matters dealing with both personal insolvency and corporate restructuring.

Reflecting on the last 12 months, what have been the biggest challenges for you personally and what are the positives you would like to keep and take forward?

The biggest challenge has been not being able to see people both personally and in a work context.  Building relationships is a crucial part of our job and sometimes there is no replacement for a face to face meeting.

I will be making sure that I have a lunch break away from my desk and getting outside in the fresh air.

What piece of advice do you wish you could go back and give to yourself at the beginning of 2020?

Give plenty of hugs to family and friends, because it is going to be a long time before you can do it again.

At Schofield Sweeney we focus on providing exceptional service for clients and have a supportive, collaborative culture to ensure each member of staff plays a crucial part in this. We’ve been named the commercial property team and dispute resolution team of the year (Yorkshire Legal Awards  2020). Everyone is valued highly here.

As many firms are revaluating working environments, flexible working policies and benefits packages to ensure they’re relevant post-pandemic. What things do you feel make the biggest impact for Women in the workplace?

Being represented at all levels of an organisation so that everyone is involved in making a working environment that supports and empowers women at all stages of their careers.

What is the thing you are most looking forward to doing once we’re finally in the ‘new normal’?

Going on holiday!
